Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

newbee questions

I want to either build or buy a single speed mountain bike in the spring, how do I choose the best gear ratio? What if the gears are to big or small, can I change them?

Ride a geared bike around and find out what gear you can do almost everything in.

it doesnt matter really. search some of the threads, you will see what kind of gears people are running. It depends on your leg strength and what kind of area you are biking in. If you are taking about Mountain biking, then check that link that the last person sent you. really, the best way to figure out the right gear is to play around with a geared bike, then see what you end up using. it was good advice. have fun!
