Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Austin's rentals

so i saw that another posted had said something about going to portland, and was looking for a bike shop that rented fixed gears. i got into austin a few days ago to celebrate the new years, and have been itching to ride, seeing all the hills around here and everyone on a bike enjoying themselves.

i've checked out fast folks (awesome little shop) and mellow johnny's (meh) and they couldn't really help me. i have a trek madone on hold for rental tomorrow from mellow johnny's that's in my size (58/57), but i would much rather enjoy the town of austin on a fixed gear, as that is what i'm used to.

if anyone has an idea about a fixed gear rental (which has been an anomaly for me, as i also tried looking in woodstock ny when i visited there) let me know.

thanks y'all

well, i ended up renting a bike from mellow johnny's. 40 bucks for 2 days. it's a trek alpha. pretty fun little bike, but just set up really weird for me. super wide bars an long-ish hoods, and the saddle is definetly not comfortable.

oh well. next time i AM bringing my bike...
