when gears and fixed collide

so the lady & i are out on a chat/ride...enjoying the weather chopping it up about any and everything...there is a 4 way stop up ahead with a car coming to a stop while we we still approaching......we had more than enough room left cause we were going along at a confortable conversation pace....but more than enough room for the car to cross the intersection....

when for no reason the lady not only applies the brakes, but drifts over right into me....i was about 1 wheel behind to her right......

i lock up the rear (skid) but it is not enough...i'm still going to hit her....

so all at once i let off the skid turn the front wheel & grab the front brake....then step over my bars and her bike....banged my knee & toe when i landed....

but i think i yelled "what the f*%K are you doing or something like that....which is why she isn't talking to me right now :D

but i am the one that has the ice packs on my foot & knee not her, that makes anything i could have said right

just curious though, how many others have gone down by their ladies....

In the world of dh, skiing, snowboarding and well any other sport in similar situations, it is the responsibility of the person following to be watchful, if you are going to pass (not what you were doing) it is your responsibility. Personally, I would have gotten up and yelled at you actually. Sounds like you were too close.

had i been snowboarding, skiing or riding in a manner in which you indicated but i was only that close because we were having a conversation....she admitted to being at fault thinking i was planning on blowing through the stop sign instead of just slowing down and letting the car pass then crossing the intersection, we ride together all the time and kind of know each others' habits, which is why this one was kind of out of the blue...

btw i stepped over her and her bike and took the force where it would have been easier to simply skid into her and her bike and bring them down then we both would be using ice instead of just me....and she know this...

sounds like your fault to me, you were in back. if you are driving in an automobile and you rear-end someone, 9 times out of 10 its your fault, regardless if the person in front stops short or unpredictably. biking is the same way.

BUT, my gf and i have collided on numerous occasions. usually miscommunication and alcohol is the cultprit.

i find it funny that i get 2 comments from people trying to tell me that its my fault when (1) we (girlfriend & i) both have come to grip and have been laughing about it already, but since you need me to paint the picture clearly,

imagine if you would 2 cars in two lanes traveling in the same direction when the car from the left lane(1) makes a right turn across the right lane directly in front of car 2...

btw i didn't rear end her, but when she cut across in front of me, i stepped / jumped over her bike broadside if we'd been in cars my front end would of hit her passenger door...

South Fulcrum 12-18-04 07:33 PM

Dude, not your fault. I hope she doesn't read this forum.

yep...just a sore toe, so i will not be able to skid for a couple of days thats about it...2 drinks and a vicodine and i'm already laughing about it....

funnies thing was that we were on the way to look for new bikes for her, and for a split second not long it was one of those...you'd do anything to get out of doing this for me...girl boy stuff....but we're both cracking jokes about it now...

i'll post that picture after she leaves the house
:D

Icey ski lift+inexperienced female friend+freshly tuned snowboard edge=leg cut down to the bone and a nice big scar. Bruised bone is still sore three years later. Suck.

i wasn't angry...really, but knew that my foot was going to hurt me today, and wasn't going to miss out on a group ride just because of a bruise on my toe/foot....boy, how humbled i was the first time things went vertical....i had to dash around the corner so the group wouldn't see the amount of pain i was in....its all good...i rode all day with basically one leg since i really couldn't pull up or push down in the clips....sucks though because this is the foot i broke a couple yrs back, never quite healed right...

BlastRadius 12-20-04 12:53 AM

You did great with hurt foot and all. That new IRO should make all the pain go away.

karmical 12-20-04 10:30 AM

BlastRadius 12-20-04 12:29 PM

Maybe she can pick me up a 50cm when she's out there too.

Judah 12-20-04 12:35 PM

It'd be funny if we all ended up riding IROs.
I sent that picture of our MarkVs in front of the palace of fine arts to Tony. He said it made his night :)

BR - only problem is that 50 would probably fit her too....wonder if tony would work out a multible frameset or complete deal of some sort....

karmical 12-20-04 02:08 PM
