Best fixie pedals?

I want to ditch the crappy plastic clip pedals my windsor came with and get something good.. ( I cant seem to get the hang of flipping the pedals and getting my foot inside the cage )

I still have a pair of Sidi Dominator 5 MTB shoes that are collecting dust in the garage.. and for such an expensive pair of shoes I figure I should put them to use..

My commute is only a whopping 3 miles round trip so I'm not sure what I should do.

Sell the shoes and get some good straps... or maybe get some cheap double sided spd pedals like the shimano 520's (what i ran with on my old road bike and am comfortable with) and keep the shoes

OR.... get those SPD reversible / platform pedals like the shimano 324's or the XLC alloy's on amazon which are cheaper than the 324's

any thoughts?

A reversable pedal does not work well with fixed gears. In order to be able to use the platform side, you would have to have clips and straps on it. That would make the pedals pretty much useless on the SPD side.

I don't mean to sound like a dick, but it seems like the most practical option would just be to sit on your bike for a while leaning against a wall and practice flipping the pedals to get your feet in. Also, if your shoes have no tread on them, it will make it a lot more difficult. I can get in real smooth with my Vans, but when I put on my worn New Balances, I look like a fumbling idiot trying to get my feet in the cages. Just practice, you'll get it. If not, maybe get some pedals with bigger tabs to flip with, like these: https://www.retro-gression.com/produc...-pedals-silver

yeah I can try practicing on a wall to get the hang of it.

or maybe I should just get the shimano 520's and rock my sidi's til they fall apart.

only downside is having to change shoes once i get to work.. well maybe not since the sidi's are MTB with the cleats I think I can pull off wearing them all day

this

If you will be doing other riding as well the mtb pedals and shoes will be best. Carrying shoes isnt a big deal for that short commute. maybe you can even leave a pair of shoes at work

Damn a thread because you can't flip a pedal around and get your foot in. Bike forums is great.

well if you read my post you'd have seen that my $300 clipless mtb shoes are "collecting dust" in my garage.. put 2 and 2 together and maybe you'd come to the conclusion that Ive had them for quite some time.. not hard to figure out.

AND.. these cheap toe clips from BD might just be POS.. the cages do seem smashed down from the box

Yeah, I had issues with the ones that came on my TT.

I switched over to MKS Sylvan Tracks with MKS cages, never had an issue after that, unless it was raining really.

after trial and error, I settled on an old set of Look clipless and road shoes (spares that I had after upgrading for new road bike). I am quite happy especially when I'm trying to stay on the pedals coming down a grade.

OP figured out what he needed but if anyone else is looking for something to help out when it's hard to flip your pedals, try these.

A lot of pedals have them built in but if yours don't you can get these for $10 on VeloOrange
