I actually like 30 Seconds to Mars. But goddamn, this picture represents pretty much everything I hate about the "sub-culture".

Please don't ride on the street with HED3s. I got one cheap for 275 and the carbon cracked by the alloy rim after going after a sneaky pothole going downhill. If it was a normal wheel, I could have simply trued it, but once carbon is damaged, it is paperweight.
This stuff is for racing and people that race on them get it from sponsors anyway. Aerospokes are more durable on the street, but learn from my mistake. DON'T RIDE CARBON RACE WHEELS FOR TARCK.

As I understand it. Aerospokes are 90% aesthetic pleasure. They don't ride well, in corners especially, and they are super heavy. HOWEVER they are very tough and have an awesome warranty.

Aerospoke Wheels
I am personally a huge fan of the look of a 3-5 spoked wheel on a bike. I've browsed around at some Hed3's and they look great, but usually cost anywhere from $400 to $800. Aerospokes are much less, but still give the desired effect.
So, are they laughably bad, or what's the deal? I've seen very little love for them on this forum.

To stick with the topic of this thread (which was brought back from two years ago by a recumbent bike rider), there's nothing wrong with an Aerospoke if you understand that you're only buying one for looks. Yeah, they're heavy and we can argue about their "aero" benefits all day...but they are bombproof wheels and do look pretty cool on the right bike.

You mean the one where some kid was talking about putting a carbon wheel on a ****ty Pure Fix because he wanted "light weight"? Yeah, that was a good one.

I bought an Aerospoke [and a 60mm chinese carbon] purely for aesthetic reasons and because I am curious about the quality of both. The Aerospoke I got for $200 so I can unload it for the same price I bought it if I don't like it.

HED3's are actually aero... and would probably be <200 for the old ones if all the fixie hipster peeps were not buying them... a front clincher is hard to find for sub400 on ebay nowadays.
