infestedguy1 12-28-04 03:42 PM

yeah, what 165 said. i just got the paul hubs, which are very similar to the phils. they have the allen bolts and i was suprised how tight i could get them. i just got them on the bike this past weekend, but so far i haven't had any slippage.

alexx 12-28-04 04:03 PM

anyone have any experience putting locking skewers in these hubs? can you get them tight enough?

na975 12-28-04 04:14 PM

BlindRobert 12-28-04 04:32 PM

I am picking up my phirst pair of phils on Thursday...from Bikeworks. Can't wait.

OneTinSloth 12-28-04 06:14 PM

hammye 12-28-04 07:27 PM

When I had a set I liked them just tight enough.

BlastRadius 12-28-04 08:59 PM

If it's too tight, it's hard to get it off

I actually had problems with Phil's slipping because of my chrome dropouts. I kept stripping the heads from torquing down as hard as I could. They told me they had a new product called "chrome domes" which would solve my problem which they sent.
These suckers create a much larger grabbing surface than any other hub out there. They act as a large washer which distributes the tension evenly. Call Phil's up and upgrade if you have any sort of slippage with the Phils.

around $20 or something like that. They come with heavier replacement bolts. Call Phils directly and ask.

Bikkhu 12-31-04 01:22 AM

Dunno, I used a Surly Tuggnut with my Phil, zero probs.

na975 12-31-04 12:41 PM

would you need/ want these chrome domes on the front wheel?

Only if your running spinners on your ride.

You can get them tight enough, but they will eventually slip ever so slightly. I get annoyed by that so I use a tensioner to keep it slack-free (also makes it a lot easier to center when tightening because it doesn't grab and lurch forward).

As for the skewers - it's not an easy process, check this thread for more info: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=63312
