Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Every Jr High kid in my city is riding a fixie now

It seemed to happen overnight. A few months ago, i'd only see older urban hipster types riding a fixie. Then i'd see younger guys riding them, and i'd see more riding them. Today I drove by my local junior high as school was getting out and every single kid riding a bike was riding a fixie.

They killed it.

Get a bike with gears and brakes. It is the new thing. Then you can say you are an enabler, an originator.

silleh kitteh.

still can't decide whether i'm lucky or not that there's only two other fixed riders in town (not that there's much bike culture to begin with), a bike shop mechanic that occasionally rides a Pake he built and some college kid on a conversion.

I'm fortunate (Ha!) to live in an area which lags only slightly behind the cutting edge. I knew the trend was on its way out several years ago when I started seeing "tweens" on FGs with cowhorns, neon deep-vs, and no brakes.

Judging by what I see where the bike path goes under the overpass, the new trend is making methamphetamine with cold medicine and two liter soda bottles. So you guys might want to get on board while it's still hot - for all you know, the next fad might involve getting a job and a car.

Sorry for the late reply; I was seizing as a result of "gigantor's" post.

In answer to your question, yes, you should shave your legs. As your meth habit progresses and you find prostitution increasingly necessary, shaved legs may help, at least with a particular type of client.

Although it occurs to me that you may have been referring to the "job and car" deal. In which case my advice might not be totally appropriate.

For some reason, the only appropriate answer to this is simply, yes.
