My Wife and I Each Want a FG/SS Bike. What do you recommend?

It's been a while since I have posted on BF, but, my wife and I recently relocated to the Chicago area, suburb of Schaumburg, to be exact, and later this summer or early fall we want to each get a bike so we can start riding again. I had a nice 2011 Allez, but was hit by a car and sold it to help pay for medical bills.

Realistically, for the two of us, I feel like our budget is $1,300. She isn't too picky as long as it fits her well and isn't gaudy in the color scheme. For me, I like traditional frame angles, and want something pretty solid as far as a frame goes. Color isn't an issue, but I do prefer blacks, greys, red, dark greens. I think we would both get steel, but aluminum is an option as well.

With that in mind, here is what I'm thinking as far as brands and models go, so far:

Globe Roll 1 or 2SE
Bianchi Pista
Felt Brougham
Specalized Langster

Now, depending on WHEN we are able to make the purchase we could either be looking at 2012 or 2013 models. Not sure if that matters in your all's giving of advice.

There are a few shops in the city that still have some older Steel Langsters, 2011 steel models, I believe, which would be a nice deal if they're still in stock once we are ready to buy. But, would prefer to get a new, unused model for the both of us.

Though I really do love those Steel Langsters!

However, I do have a strong magnetic attraction for the Felt Brougham, as well. Of course, the best in-house deal on the planet right now, is the KHS Soul. It comes with almost race-like 26mm tires.

The KHS Urban Soul ~ $400

However, if you'd like wider tires, you could always go with REI's house brand, Novara Buzz One single speed. It comes with 40 mm tires.

The Novara Buzz One ~ $450

The Felt Brougham ~ $550

The Trek Earl ~ $530

Since the Earls come in two different colors, you may feel inclined to mix and match...

* You just can't go wrong with any of these chromoly single speeds!

Even if you don't buy one of these, the build-a-bike function on this site is kinda fun. I think these come out to around $429 each if I'm not mistaken. I didn't bother reading into the component list or anything. Not sure if it's a good deal.

Ironically, before you joined, "bigshotbikes" was the running joke of the forum.

No, they are not good bikes. Hahahaha

Haha good to know, good to know. There are ads for them on every square inch of this forum. Not that I blame anyone, advertising income is advertising income.

I think the charge plug prestige is cool. You have to get it from performance so I'd wait for one of their 20% sales to buy the bike: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes...93_-1___400317
