'13 Raleigh Furley?
 

This is more of a retail/supply chain question.... if there's a more appropriate forum for this I'd appreciate the suggestion.

So I'm very into the Raleigh Furley for many reasons. Problem is I can't get my butt on one. There are 5 or 6 dealers within 100miles from me and none have this bike in stock (in any frame size). Finally called a shop in Rochester, VT (about 2 hours away from me) and the dude took the time to log into his dealer portal, found that there is one 57cm available on the west coast. But I'm not going to order a bike I haven't ridden... right?

The 2013 are due in stores "soon" he told me, but they or any other retailer I've spoken to have no plans of stocking them.

So what's a guy to do? I can't see how I'm going to be able to get on this bike without first committing but it is pretty much the bike I would dream up for my current need. I am not aware of anything else on the market that comes close at that price.

Is it totally ridiculous to even consider pulling the trigger on a bike I haven't seen? Any advice on getting on one of the '13s when they drop?

Nobody here knows the bike. Just wait until you can try one in person. The 2012 probably won't suck but why not be sure?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. This problem is the I can't see how this is going to happen. I've explored a wide radius and can't find a single shop that carries/will carry the model at all.

Also, I'm not asking for a recommendation on the bike. Just wondering what others with more bike purchasing/ownership experience might do when faced with a situation like this.

Maybe if you posted what your requirements are people could direct you in other directions. I'm pretty sure there are a few forum members with singlespeed cyclocross bikes with disk brakes. As for how to deal with the 2013s can't you ask any of the raleigh dealers near you if they could order it in your size to test out? It seems like the kind of bike that they could sell pretty easily even if you turned it down.

edit: I didn't realize it had a belt drive. The shops might not want to carry it just so they don't have to deal with that. Is the belt drive the thing that is exciting you? You might just have to order it.

And what excites me is a steel framed, disc brake, drop bar, single speed bike that can be potentially geared in the future. It can take fenders, racks, etc. It can be a CX bike, an around town fixie or I can gear it out and maybe even do some light touring. Oh yea, I'm broke. It's $850.

Anyway Proof, you're right. I just need to call every dealer around and see if they'll order one without me committing to buy it. If that doesn't work, then I'm stuck.

I want a furley in the worst way. It's the first new bike that has me saving up in a long time. They're not amazingly light, but the part where you can add a cassette, shifting parts (housing stops already on board) and a bb30 double makes me all week in the knees.

Nobody around here has one either. I'd love to toss a leg over.

If only it had derailleur hangers for added awesomeness. ~Just realized the interchangeable dropouts & the derailleur braze ons :lol:

But wait, if no one bites, the price is going to continue going down... it obviously already didn't sell well for competitive to nearly slash the price in half. :D

At this point, im going to wait for the geared version to brake 1 grand, and get one.

Scoll down and you can see some closer pictures of the Raleigh. Too much going on to be a clean SS/FG to me.

I also just noticed it's sold as a complete; need coffee... not bad at all.

Yeah, I'd rather buy the geared version, and take everything off, then buy the SS version, and have to buy everything else.
