Stolen in DC: Surly Cross-Check 48cm (REWARD)

Hi everyone,

My dear friend had her Surly Cross-Check 48 single-speed stolen in Washington, DC tonight, near Union Station and the Georgetown University Law Campus. As well as having tons of sentimental value, this is her commuting ride (7+ miles a day) and she is obviously distraught. While not expecting to get it back, if anyone in the area could keep a lookout for it, she would appreciate it. We have reason to believe that it was stolen by someone who KNOWS BIKES, and it might still be in the community. The thief may be riding it or trying to sell it locally. I will post a serial number to this thread as soon as I know it.

A REWARD IS BEING OFFERED.

Pictures:

(It includes Shimano Dura Ace and Ultegra components, and has
had a few minor modifications since these pictures.)

For non-DC posters, does anyone know of a used Surly CC 48 for sale, since Surly no longer makes frames in that size? Alternately, any recommendations on a different/comparable brand in a 48? The size is crucial.

Thanks for the help, please contact cityspirit@mac.com with any questions/advice/information about the theft. (Total shot in the dark, but worth a try.)

Since you have the serial number, you should file a police report. More than not you wont get the bike back, but if someone pawns it/gets arrested or something on it there is a small chance you might find out something about it.

I saw a guy riding a bike like this near the Hyattsville metro station tonight. Did she have one of the those seat tube mounted rear fenders that sticks straight out and a little up? I followed him a little way but because I didn't know how to positively ID the bike, I didn't confront him.
