Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

The creaking I was experiencing after a year of hard commuting and riding turned out to be the grease had disappeared from between the cups and bb. Try removing everything, cleaning with solvent and trying again. My problem with the stock omnomnom was that I sheared the stupid bolts it came with. I had already swapped the ring out for the 49t that comes with the crabon FSA cranks with no incident and had greased and replaced everything. I have since changed the bike to a 3/32 and in swapping that ring for an NOS campy ring I sheared the seized and stripped bolt trying to get it out. FSA makes bolts that have torx on one end and a hex on the other if you still need to match the crank with a super thick chainring.

Omniums (that don't have issues), S75's, Dura Ace 7710's, all of them should be more than good enough for your typical street bike and rider and in a lot of instances are probably too much.
Agreed.

Since I know how much ADDING options helps with decisions, what about the Miche Pista set?

Or is there a reason these rarely get mentioned here?

Miche cranks are nice. Some people don't like their bottom brackets, but mine never gave me any trouble.

I see a lot of good frames and builds on CL with Miche cranks. No personal experience so I thought it was a little weird to see a Cinelli Mash or FTP with Miche cranks.
