Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Whaddya think?

Just thought I'd post some pics of my bike. I was gonna wait 'till it was all finished but decided I'd put up some progress shots.

Trek 1989 (unknown) steel frame
Goldtec/Mavic CXP33 rear wheel
Shimano 600/Mavic OpenPro front wheel
Nitto B127 bars
Shimano 600 Cranks
Custom Reynolds 531 chrome fork

Just had the braze ons removed and next is a set of track ends and a glossy black paint job. Mmmmm....black and chrome.

That is one huge chain ring! You must have legs of steel, I'm curious about that ratio as well. Nice bike.

Thanks for the kind words. I just changed the gearing from 53*18 to 50*14 which has increased it to 94 inches. It is a big gear but it eats up the miles with just a little extra effort on the big hills.
The dropouts are short so I don't have the use of the flip-side of the hub at the moment but once the track ends are on I think I'll run it with the option of a 16t cog on the other side.

Wow! That's huge! I run a 42/14 and have found that to be a rough gear. I'm impressed.
