what is the best way to install chain ring (single speed)
What is the best way to install a new chain ring and prevent tight spots?

I use the google also.
The ways all suck. There is no best way because there is no good way. It's a miserable damn life and you'll probably lose a finger trying.
The best way is precision rings on precision cranks with precision bolts. If you don't have those three things, you're stuck with google.

Still kicking.
With hope and dreams.
If that fails when putting a chainring on, I will do this.
1: Put the chainring on the spider put the bolts on and snug them down enough so the chainring doesn't flop around.
2: Put chain on bike and set to desired chain tension
3: Loosen chainring bolts then retighten them.
The hope and dreams thing always fails, but I seem to have decent luck with the other way.

Still kicking.
Actually, I must confess. I generally don't have to do anything on my own stuff, no loose or tight spots.

I go around the ring, tightening every other bolt like lug nuts on a car. So if you have an odd number of them, you'll hit each one on every other time around. A lot easier to do than explain, but it probably doesn't make that much difference anyway.

Or you could get a nice round chainring like Sugino Zen or Dura Ace.
Snug up bolt tension gradually in star pattern.

Go to your local home depot and buy a power drill. Insert threadless nail into chainring, connect to BB opening, and drill it secure. Also use locktite just to be safe.
