Older White Ind Freewheel Sound

I have an older White Ind Freewheel. The inside metal and threading is black instead of silver. It seems to work alright, but it does not have that loud buzzing sound that White is known for. Can anyone verify if this is typical of White's older freewheels? The ebayer I got it from said it had never really seen any use and it was in his closet for years. So presuming that's true, there shouldn't be any wear on the internals.

If it is an older one, maybe the grease inside has hardened up a bit and the pawls and springs are sticking slightly.

Will running it for a while loosen the grease? Or does it need to be cleaned out completely and have new grease put in?

Well you're not going to be able to regrease the bearings bc they are sealed. But the bearings are not what makes the unique sound, that's the pawls. But you know this. You can oil the pawls but you're going to have to open it up to do that. But you know that too.

What I don't know is if the older models were designed differently so that their sound is distinctly different.

Sorry, looks like I was wrong, according to the instructions posted by Bat56, you shouldn't use grease.
If the older freewheels are meant to be loud, maybe its a bit dirty, or maybe a spring has broken or weakened? I'm not sure.
I thought someone who has used one would have replied by now.

If the freewheel runs smoothly, I wouldn't muck around with it....just accept it for what it is and use it. There are vastly more important things to worry about.
