Is this normal? (tight chain on new freewheel)

I've got a new freewheel (AC 888 15t 3/32) and the chain (3/32) doesn't line up with the cog smoothly. The width is fine-- the problem is in the other dimension (lateral?). I have to press it onto the cog. A BMX friend of mine says that it'll wear in but he hasn't actually seen it. Is this normal? It doesn't seem so. I'm waiting for my chainring so I can't really test this out yet.

Did you get a new chain? Either your chain's way stretched or there's something fishy about the sizing.

Ditto on that sounding like a stretched chain - is that a used chain?

New cogs/rings deserve a new chain.

Got a new chain today and guess what... no problem. The chainwhip I used to tighten the thing didn't fit-- how stretched could a chainwhip get? I guess enough.

Thanks,
Chuckie
