Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

personal goals and achievements

So today I went on a solo bike ride to Stillwater,MN and back starting from my place in Maplewood,MN. I have doe this once earlier this year with a few friends but took us over 6hrs due to some complications on the way back. My goal was to do this again but solo to see how fast I could do to there and back.

This is at the end of the trail in Stillwater,MN.

This is the distance from my place in Maplewood to Stillwater.

What I average for mph on the way there.

Total distance for the round trip.

Total amount of time it took me to get there and back.

My average speed on the way back.

This is my first year biking and my goals were to average a minimum of 18mph on my 8mi commute, drop 15lbs and log in 1000mi of biking. So far I have achieved all of these goals so I guess I should be proud of myself. I just love it when I show up to group rides and all these roadies doubt that I could keep up with them. I should also mention that I usually average 16mph on 20mi+ rides but today I feel like I was at my best performance. Thanks to all the people on this forum for giving me motivations to stay with my singlespeed, thanks!

Don't get so hung up on average speed, a bunch of variable add and subtract from it. Good job on meeting your goals.
