Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Any Philadelphia pholks going to Monster Track?

I just registered. I don't know sh*t about the streets, but I'm sure good times will be had by all. I just want to ride, drink, repeat. I'm also looking for a couch to crash upon, so to stay Sat night. Anyone else going? Bike swap? Beuller?

consarnit, luke!!!!
i told myself, "it'd be nice to go to monster track... but it'd probably be lame to go alone" i then went on to think, "there probably won't be any pie and i'd probably get singled out for wedgies and noogies because i ride the short bus and and and...."

well, the point is i talked myself out of going for some stupid reason or another. now i'm kinda obligated to work on a short film thingee. then on top of all of that... you've gotta be a jerk and say that you're going. way to go. way to hurt my feelings.

p.s. did you ever get your prizes from the "got juice" race?

Hey yo, Thanks for the maps. I'm making a preliminary visit this weekend to "study" (read: drink heavily). I'm getting super excited to tear up the mean streets. Here is another push to the P-town kids: DO IT. I'm not necessarily going to compete, just ride with some like minded peeps and have a good ole time. And if yous is concerned about the ride, come wit me, I'm driving the truck to Levittown or NJ or something then taking NJT. Come on...

Ohhhhh Yeaaaahhhhh. I forgot all about the prizes, until I got a call from the friendly (and wowee smoking hot) girl from Mike's. I received, for my almost-very-nearly-podium finish a gift certificate and a trophy fashioned from a painted training wheel. Haha, I was only bruised in the pride for a second. It now rests on my mantle. Really.

And Stet, maybe now you reconsider, no?

i had to try to explain to her who you were and the situation regarding your absence from the awards ceremony. we were leafing through all the entry cards for your contact info and the more i described your dashing features the more excited she became. she was so turned on by your name and really looked forward to calling you. i thought i heard violins playing.
all of that is 100% true. *ahem* i swear. *cough*
in all seriousness i'm going to nyc this weekend for non bike reasons but my bike will probably tag along. i'd love to meet up with you for some car dodging, but i won't know the details until tomorrow (friday). pm me or something.

oh...and another thing. your prizes were much better than the arm punching, name calling, and de-pantsing of the other higher finishers. i'm quite satisfied with the kryptoflex and chain lube i recieved as my consolation prize. some might call me crazy for getting a trophy case exclusively for them but i ask you... "what is crazy?"

OK. My first exploratory trip up here is nearing completion. I've learned much here in the big city. Like when they tell you they're ecstacy jello shot, don't believe them. Anyway, I'm officially pumped for MonsterTrack. All yous Philly peeps are missing out.

By the way, what votes do y'all have as to the best way for me and the Stella to get up here? Chinatown bus? NJT? Hmmmmm?

Chinatown bus rules! Just put your bike in the luggage compartment. I've done that many times.

which bus line is bike friendly(iest) ? the last chinatown bus i rode wouldn't let anyone load anything in the luggage compartment under the bus because it was full of large tires and some strange large unmarked boxes that they were loading in. i assume it was some sort of illegal business like packaged slave laborers and black market organs. either that or produce.

I've always traveled by New Century Travel [https://www.2000coach.com/] and never had any problems whatsoever... The compartment under the bus has always been empty and usually my bike is the only thing traveling in there. Maybe you just had bad luck, or they hate you because you are THE MAN!

Thanx all. Now I must figure out the couch gig, because if my spider-sense is operating correctly, there will be much drinking Sat night, and who wants to miss that?
