Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Futzed around with my ever changing stack of FG/C&V parts.

Untitled by ctjr, on Flickr

ALAN Competition frame, no name wheelset (quando hubs+alex rims), Sakae Ringyo cockpit, some campagnolo bits for braking and pedaling. And a really light saddle.

I know. I liked them a lot when I first put them on the bike last fall, but the more I look at them the more I find myself wishing I'd gone with something in a polished silver. Since I first built it up I've kind of skewed towards the classic leather and polished silver look which the cranks no longer match. I'm stuck with them for the time being though. It's mine and it rides great, but I have been having some buyers remorse over the cranks. Do you guys think the pedals would look good if their red were just an accent color instead of being overloaded by the cranks?

Any suggestions on cranks for future modifications would be appreciated.

I guess you could always take the paint of them, they are aluminium underneath. Others here could tell you how, I personally have no experience with the process.

It involves a buffing wheel, several good albums, and eye protection

I've considered trying that. Does anyone know whether or not I would need to clear coat the bare alloy afterward?

Made a tough decision today and tore down my Lotus. I need to reduce the number of bikes, but this is one that I ride a lot. The parts went onto a frame that I will not part with (and has similar geometry to the Lotus), and the Lotus frame will be disposed of somehow.

Lotus:

Now rebuilt onto a Ron Stout frame:

As it is now. 97 Hardrock frame magic-just-enough-tension-not-to-throw-the-chain. 700c wheelset 32mm tires. 63" gear. Dirt drops. This bike changes outfits a lot, but I always find myself coming back to the fixed wheel world. Strange but fun bike.

it would be stupid for him to put the bike in the spot further away from his car just to get a DS photo.
