Sweet impulse buy, lol. So what do you think of it so far? I've been curious about Charge bikes for a while.

sloar 07-23-14 12:27 PM

So far I like it, about the same quality as the kilo tt. Rides really nice, I was thinking about getting another kilo, but all they had in my size was the white and gold stripper. So far the only thing I don't like are the pedals, but that's a simple swap.

I am sorry to be contrary but a sweet lugged-up Italian frame like that begs for Vittoria Open Corsas or Veloflex Masters...

True but from a commuting standpoint that just doesn't make any sense. Problem is those are damn expensive and wear out significantly quick.
I could buy 2+ paselas for just 1 of those!

Pasela PT's on the other hand are the best commuter tire I've used by far. Cheap, has actual decent flat protection, good looking, grip and ride quality that is excellent.
I especially like how pasella's casing have some give and how the thread is microperforated, giving it very good cornering grip.

What can I tell you? I ride a ton of miles, much of it commuting on terrible roads, on my bike shod with skinny Veloflex tires and let me tell you, besides being fast-rolling and sharp handling, they ride pretty damn comfortably. Not to mention those suckers are amazingly tough for racy tires. Depending on sales & coupon codes I find them for pretty close to price of folding Pasellas and however it happens, I get a lot of miles out of them.

I can not speak to the utility or cost of Vittorias - when I recently needed tires and planned to switch to those, I ended up going back to the Masters :thumb:

Yes pics in riding position

gah this is a screenshot of a really low-light video taken late this (winter's) afternoon with my solanum tuberosum. a video selfie cos no one was around to take snapshots.

despite the poor quality of the shot i think it shows i'm comfortable. my hands are in what would be the hood position. if i have the seat too high it can't be far off because my leg angle is good and my hips don't rock and it doesn't give me back trouble. i'm open to suggestions though.

i downsized to this 55cm cinelli from a 59cm pake because i felt like i was too stretched out. i scored the cinelli for a song. i shifted all the same components from the pake across and by comparison i feel i can really "get a hold of" the cinelli in a most satisfactory way. i don't think there are many 6'1.5 guys out there using a 55cm frame, but it's working for me.

Tristen: Nicely done. I am 6' tall and ride a 56" frame with lots of seat post too. You get used to the short guys assuming you are doing it all wrong, don't worry.

tristen 07-24-14 08:45 AM

ah cool @iTripped yeah i've got to admit i was a bit apprehensive going down to a 55 but i really felt it was something i had to try. i'm happy to say i've no regrets at all.

This was always my favorite Sputnik. What year is this?

LowRG 07-24-14 06:38 PM

2009. The last good year. Picked it up brand new summer of 2012

Hey all. When I took this picture I thought I was going to have this bike for a lot longer. I loved it. No pads on the back, just clumps of snow/sludge. The bars looked a lot more level in the garage and felt plenty comfy right up till my wreck in may.

TheOctopus 07-26-14 11:16 AM

This is my first post here, but after riding a cheap recycled steel-framed fixed gear with risers for 2 years, I finally put a new build together yesterday. I don't know why I didn't go with a more aggressive riding position sooner!

Its easier to make a smaller bike fit than trying to make a bike too big fit.

Love the KHS too but lack of OG paint is saddening. :(

jpsawyer does it proper. I dig both of those bikes a lot.

jpsawyer 07-26-14 09:27 PM

Thanks guys. I wish the KHS had the original paint as well. I plan on getting repainted with the original blue/purple fade sometime. I already made the decals for it. But the frame came to me as is for a great deal so I'm not complaining.
