So today I replaced the worn and dirty handlebar tape on my vintage Schwinn Paramount P14 that I've been restoring with traditional cotton cloth tape, and had almost forgotten how difficult it is to get non-stretchy tape on without wrinkles. I've gotten really spoiled using modern stretchy synthetic tapes, and had to redo it several times before it came out right. To make matters worse, the second roll of tape was too short and would not reach the end of the bar w/o redoing it with almost no overlap. Aaaaarrg!

When I removed the tape on the left side, it revealed multiple boo boos on the bar from many bad encounters with the track.

current situation.

new bars, stem, tape, cranks, chainring, and saddle are in the mail.

at first i was running 80", but i thought it was 73". i didnt take into account the 27" wheel factor. right now its at 65", the only chainrings i had were 52s and 42s. new chainring will step it up to a 69". wooo.

First time fixie/ss (sort of)

Converted an old aluminum trek to SS a few years back, but this Mercier kilo tt is my first true fixie. Lots of CX, MTB and road but this is a whole new thing!! ( like re-learning how to ride a bike)

Here is my 2010 Schwinn Madison in cruise mode and triathlon mode:

Miche cranks, deep V wheels with black spokes and gold nipples, perforated Turbo saddle and sawed down gold Answer MT Bike bars

I used to have all the gold on a 1970's Windsor National:

Whats up everyone. Lurking for a while. Figured if I'm gonna start posting, I better introduce you to my girl Lucy.

Didn't own a bike for 10+ years. Decided to get a SS, mostly because my commute is pretty flat and and I wanted to keep the maintenance/cost down. It's a purefix, obviously. Added some YNOT straps and "upgraded" the saddle to this Selle Royal I found super cheap. It's a little clunky, but really comfortable. New high end saddle will probably be the next major upgrade though. I have some drops I might put on soon. Enjoying the bulls a lot now though, both aesthetically and when I occasionally have some steep hills to climb.

Whether ripping past cars in city traffic or cruising hands free down empty streets, I am totally in love with riding my bike and exploring. I hope you feel the same way about yours!

Feel free to bash and critique! I have thick skin!

Kyle

Junior size Raleigh Record with 26inch wheels. Still waiting for grip tape and also still need to work on the stem/seat adjustments.

This was built for me by Phil at One On One bike shop in MPLS, MN. (just wanted to give credit to him)
