Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Are those Surly hubs in the pic? If not, what are they?

Not Surly hubs, Bianchi branded but doing some checking they are made by Novatec.

Hello everyone!! Here are my two current rides, and the bike that got me into SS/fixed. I commute to work on most days 8.5 miles each way using both bikes. No racks, no panniers, no water bottle cages. Just what fits in my messenger bag.

2013 Felt TK3 with commuter lights. 48:15 - swapped out the bars, stem, and pedals along with the saddle. (Will post a more recent picture) Added Gatorskins

2009 Jamis Sonik. 48:15 - swapped out the bars, stem and pedals along with the saddle. (Will post a more recent picture) Added Vittoria Rubino's

And my heavy pig Bigshot Dublin. 46:16 - swapped out everything except the chain, seatpost and headset. Yeah that is a coaster brake haha (sold this bike)

How did you like that aerospoke? I know they aren't practical, but i love the way 5 and 3 spoke wheels look on a bike.

I am in the same boat as you, love the look, but knew it was not practical. Picked it up off of Craigslist locally for a decent deal so I thought I would give it a shot. It was fine on the heavier bike, but I did try it on the Felt, and you could definitely feel the weight difference between it and the stock wheel. Very stiff and unforgiving on the road even on with a carbon fork. Would I do it again? Yeah. Would love to find a HED 3 but that is out of my budget right now.

What's wrong with riding with one strap? because i honestly don't know. When i first started i got used straps and the right torn apart so i just got used to running with one.

unexpectedly, laziness is a completely valid reason for just about anything, carry on.

first build. It's an 09 Kona Paddy wagon.
520 steel frame. mavic cxp 22 rims with surley hubs
conti touring plus tires 32c
serfas seat, kinda big but super comfy when riding without bike shorts
shimano dual mountain pedals
race face 90 stem
might add some fenders

still need to run brakes as I plan to ride it around town and to work some in ss mode

Let me know what you think, not 100% on the yellow tape but wanted to give it some pop

My daily since i moved to Beantown.. left all my motorized vehicles back home...

I ride it fixed but like having the brakes for backup, i might get rid of the rear or both eventually.
