Crankset BB combo question

Pretty sure a lot of people post things similar to this and I've done my best to look through as many of the topics as I could but this makes it easier for me.

I'm about 5'6 with pretty strong legs. My budget is about $150 max. I need a solid crankset and bottom bracket that are gonna ride smooth and kick some ass. Color isn't a huge issue so black or chrome is fine. If anyone can throw out some ideas or personal reviews to guide me in a positive direction I'd appreciate it. The only 1 i have really given thought to is the all city 612 crankset. Thanks in advance for the input!

I think you are on the right track with the 612 , another option in your price range would be sugino messengers, but neither come with the appropriate bb. Fwiw on across site he's got messengers in ugly color for cheaper and ill probably be buying a set soon in whichever color is cheaper

Edit: nvm all the same now

Just so you're aware, Andel Standards are All-City 612s without the branding (and a slightly different chainring).

Are they really? Would you say they are just as good even with the different chainring? What bottom bracket would accompany the andel standards?

They're literally exactly the same and the chainring is on par with the All-City.

There's a link to the recommended BB on the product page.

Just checked it out they look great. The price is similar to my LBS they're offering the silver all-city cranks for $99. If I can find the Andels for cheaper though I'd really go with those. Is there any difference in terms of quality when it comes to square taper bottom brackets?

If you can get the AC crank for 99 bucks, that's a great deal (and you won't have to wait for it to show up in the mail).

Square-tapered BBs with cartridge bearings are all pretty much the same, in my experience with them. Any 68mm English-threaded BB with a 110mm spindle will work with that crankset.
