The Crash Story Thread
Let's hear your crash stories!
I'll start -
Once I was death pedaling down a hill and my foot got caught in my front wheels' spokes. That ended in the hospital.
Second time was with a car that didn't signal her turn. Nothing bad, took her info. Ended 5 minutes later.
Third and most recent was with an old driver who didn't see me. Granted I didn't have a front light on. Anyway, I slammed into the side of his car and was totally thrown off my bike. I remember watching my bike float away from me. I went bouldering 10 minutes after the ambulance came.
What happened to you guys?!

Only noobs crash. Besides even if I did crash - I'm way too insecure to own up to it to strangers on the internet.

Fresh Garbage
I recently crashed in a pace line because a crack in the road ate my front wheel. Nothing serious but I then had to ride 12 miles alone at the dead of night through Silverlake and Echopark.
Just a reminder,
Please no gorey images, they will be taken down.

I was riding down the hill from Boulder City NV to Lake Mead, and the next thing I remember was the nurse at the BC hospital telling me that the x-rays show that I've broken my neck.
My GPS shows that I was going 48mph when I wrecked.

I'm not looking forward to crashing on something where my feet are strapped in.

Only crashes I've had on bikes have been when I was doing stupid **** on my downhill bike either in the hills on tracks or doing manuals down the roads. I separated my left shoulder after I cased a jump with my front wheel and landed on solid packed dirt during practice runs for a race when I was 16. That also sucked.

ive learned that 98% of people driving cars are inconsiderate pricks who dont pay attention to anything
my first crash on a bike in my adult life was when i got t boned by a 72 year old man who didnt stop at a stop sign and wasnt even looking where he was going
same exact thing almost happened to me the other day with some woman, luckily she looked at the oncoming traffic when she was about a foot away from me
people man. why?

Or could have been a tack in the road placed by anti bike Nazis...at 48 on skinny tires anything could happen...Sorry for not clarifying...but the question was directed to the OP.

Last summer I went out right after it got done raining. Went into a turn a little faster than I should have, back wheel found a soggy twig, skipped out on me, just went down. Slid a few feet on nothing more than my shin. Saved the bibs/hands, got sweet road rash.
Never had a really serious crash.

I've found that getting it wrong is a great way of learning stuff ... provided it doesn't hurt too much

Also, for the love of Pistas, please stop putting "Thread" in the title of a thread. It makes me want to punch an ATM machine.

This is the good question here.
I've learned from crashes where I was at fault:
1) Make sure your equipment is functioning properly
2) Pay Attention
3) Don't push the limits of your comfort zone while descending. This means that I don't do road races with technical descents anymore.
They all seem pretty simple, but like everything else I know well, I had to learn them the hard way, and the consequence of each was a concussion, ruined bike equipment (frameset!) and an ER visit for two of them.
Also on a somewhat less related note (to SSFG) Ive learned:
4) Don't let off the gas and cool down when you are done leading someone out to the last corner, no matter how tired you are. At worst, keep the cranks turning and stay low to maintain speed even if youre totally cooked.
I led out my boy at a one of the Dominguez Hills socalcup crits a few years back. We were 4th and 5th wheel and I looked over and said "Gabe let's GO!". I led him out at ~30mph for about 20s, stringing out the field in the process, and dropped him off right at the last corner. I coasted through the corner, totally dead, and took a much narrower turn at a slower speed than the charging field right behind me.
Sure enough, I feel a handlebar push my hip pretty hard from the inside. It pointed me straight at the curb on the opposite side of the road, where I proceeded to endo into the grass. Fortunately I wasn't hurt really and no one else was involved in the crash; I wouldve felt like a total prick.
OH and my boy won

Still kicking.
Never ever jam a foot in the front wheel, just like putting your hands anywhere near the drive train while pedaling or a disc brake rotor when it's spinning. It's just asking to get hurt in some sort of way.
