Building a beater; help with frame much appreciated (searched to no avail).

I'm about to build a commuter for taking a beating from everyday use, and I'd like some advice or links to resources for my frame. I'm going to be giving it a few coats of truck-bed liner to protect it from the usual: bike racks, wrecks, drunken misbehavior, etc. Obviously, I'm not looking for a crazy nice frame or anything; I just need some direction to look in.

Criteria is basically:
Stiffer steel alloy (more power to cranks plz)
Durable welds
Tighter wheel base
Higher bottom bracket.

Budget: $200-$300 range ($400 if nothing else fits the bill).

Thanks!

If you're looking for a new frame with track ends, I'd go for the Eighthinch Scrambler V3. $150 for the frame, fork, seatpost, seat clamp, and headset. Super solid frame for the money and makes a great beater.

Here's mine:

PeDDeR27:
How would you compare the Scrambler with the IRO Mark V Pro? The biggest difference seems to be that the Mark V has Reynolds 631 steel, while the Scrambler has 4130 Chromoly steel. From what I've read, the Reynolds 631 is stronger, which would be better for a beater...even if the frame is $50 more.

seau grateau:
Sorry, I forgot to specify that I'm looking for a steel frame. =)

The IRO Mark V Pro is a nicer frame and has better tubing, but I don't think that makes it necessarily better for a beater. I mean, it is a beater.. plus the Scrambler V3 should be plenty strong enough.
The Scrambler has a shorter TT length.
The Scrambler V3 has a steeper angles than the Mark V Pro, so it's a little more aggressive. Mark V will be more relaxed.
Mark V Pro has a higher BB and a shorter wheelbase.
The Scrambler V3 has gussets (supposedly for more strength).
Mark V Pro has no cable guides or any bottle mounts.
Scrambler V3 has cable guides and water bottle bosses.

I've heard that a while ago IRO was hard to contact, but I don't know about know.

IMO, the IRO has better frame quality, but if this is for a beater, I think the Eighthinch would be a better choice although it is slightly more aggressive.

Nashbar always has frames on sale. I just bought a Fuji track frame for $129.00 - a bargain. I'm building up a SS with parts on hand.

I love the look of those fyxation frames. But they weigh quite the sum.

"Personalize it" is just one of Fyxation's catch phrases used in ads and such.
