Michelin City Tires

Does anyone have experience with the 'Michelin City Mountain Bike Tire with Protek' sold on Amazon ? Is there different variations of this type of tire? I can't seem to find 700x28 tires for my single speed commuter bike other than that one. The only difference I can spot is the TPI which is 33 and on the official website is 22. Any info would be appreciated thanks.

700x28 is a very common size.

yeah I had them....fat...grippy, thick(puncture resistant) and more comfortable ride. I did in fact have the 700x28 without reflective sidewall before they sold out. They still have alot of life in them and are on my gfs bike right now.

but....they are freakishly heavy and slow but im sure you are aware of that.

if you want something with some grip and flat protection commuter style, Im on panaracer ribmos right now 700x25 definitely faster than the city tires. Im sure the 25s would be even more comfortable if thats what you're going for hope that helps.

I had one. I know friends who haven't flatted much on them, but I had no such luck. IMO, city's suck and there are far better tires suited for similar conditions. Go with something else, Vittoria or Panaracer are good companies to start with.

Thanks for the heads up I'll look into those. I'm on 25's but decided to change to 28's due to the crappy streets around by where I live. I thought the reflection side walls were a pretty cool perk but I would rather have a better tire if thats the case

They worked really well on my polo bike
I seem to remember that they were much fatter than Randonneurs.
Never used them on the road.

Looks like I'm leaning with Schwalbe Marathon GG RLX https://www.amazon.com/Schwalbe-Marat...schwalbe+tires or the Panaracer T-Serv though a little pricier https://www.amazon.com/Panaracer-T-Se...ords=panaracer . I'm just looking with a 'multi purpose' tire with reflective side walls that are durable and able to handle these streets of LA. Thanks for the input[h=1][/h]

another cheapo tire that has been holding up really well for me is:

https://bontrager.com/model/08860

had to buy one when a tire completely died on a commute one day and i needed new tire to get home. 20 bucks thick as hell and wears like iron. probably not a "fast" tire but it doesn't seem slow.

i think the sidewalls on the t-servs are too thin to be practical commuter tires. they ride nice but are pretty damn fragile compared to other tires of that type. if your going panaracer i'd go with the ribmo.

the marathons will last you half a lifetime. i have some of the cheaper 5 year old wire bead ones on my rainy day commuter that absolutely refuse to die. the ones with the puncture goo in them ride a little funny. i didn't like them but my wife didn't mind em a bit. last used them on her commuter and she went over 5 years with no flats (20+ miles round trip).

Reflective sidewalls are a gimmick. You don't want to depend on the presence of lights from someone else to make you visible, get good lights for your bike. If you're considering the T-Serv's, get them. I can't speak highly enough of the pair I run on one of my bikes. Good rubber is almost always worth the money in the long run.

I'm liking my T-Serv's on my touring bike so far. Pasela TGs on my road bike have been amazing as well, but they're in 25c.

i don't know about LA but philly streets are probably as crappy as they come in spots... based on the comments maybe i just had bad luck with the tservs but after sidewall failure on those and paselas TG's (even thinner sidewalls) i was riding i just decided the sidewalls were to thin.

I might have just have to try the T-Serv's. So no one has anything nice to say about those Michelin City tires huh? Well anything beats the cheap kenda k152 tires that came with my bike

I would say that LA, on average, is worse than Philly. Lots of concrete paved streets here, and they are cracked to hell.

I have the Michelin City tires on my commuter/touring bike in 32 and love them for that purpose. Never gotten a flat with 'em (knock wood).

But they are heavy and the bead is really tight and hard to get on/of wheels - which makes me extra glad they are flat resistant.

I was using City 40c's for almost a year. No flats, rolled well for a fat tire.

yeah I have gone through 2 sets and 28c City's I like them more than I did Rando's...no flats in 2 years just worn out tread. No not the lightest of tires but dependable
