Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

its not by time usually, its by two hands to one hand to no hand to one foot to fall down.

the best you can do is a no footed, no handed, no saddle track stand!

Commonly known as 'Faceplants' correct?

Or is this some weird thing where you stand on the front tire or something?

The brake down is two feet two hands, usually lasts a song or two. Two Feet One Hand usually lasts a song or two. Two Feet no Hand, usually lasts most of a song. One foot, usually drops everyone else. Some times you see a guy drop is other foot, to see how long he can wobble, usually a second or two.

I've seen guys that could trackstand for what seemed like forever. Us Boston folks went for a ride not too long ago and it seemed like bostontrevor could pull off at least a 10 minute trackstand. I think I can trackstand for like 5 seconds if I'm lucky. I lack the balance or something...

Yeah, but I'd still be sunk in a contest because my one-handed is pretty weak and my no handed outright sucks.

The trick to one-footed is to put your rear trackstand foot on your front tire, it makes things somewhat managable. But most of you probably knew that. That's how I've "trackstanded" on a freewheel bike, which is really useless since youre already taking a foot off the pedals.
At the alleycat I was at, only two people made it to the no-handed, one-footed, and even that only lasted about 5-10 seconds. All other sections were 2ish minutes.

is it legal then to put your foot on the front tire in the one foot no hands part? that would make it much easier...

You would have to examine article C, heading 4 in the International Alleycats Racing Assosication (IARA), its kind of a grey area, but here is an excerpt:
"...whatever dude..."

acutally Amendment 4 states that this is ok, but only if the person is spinning pie plates with any free apendages.

See I thought the new interpratation of Article C ment that you could keep a foot on the tire only if people are throwing empty beer bottles at you, or some part of your clothing was onfire.

A buddy of ours is a trials rider, and can trackstand on anything forever it seems. So we started lighting him onfire to make it more fun. Fireworks make trackstand comps more fun aswell

Has anyone ever been pushed over while busting a trackstand on the street?

Sometimes I wonder if some dick ped will just deliberately shove me over.

I've never been pushed over, but I had some BU jack-a$$ pretend he was going to once. I didn't fall though.

I was chugging a beer at the only alleycat trackstand contest that i've ever been to, that was fun but I fell a lot quicker than usual when it got to the no handed part. At that contest, the no handed part lasted about 5-7min and then the one footed lasted like 3seconds. Then there was a tie so these three kids had to no handed track stand for as long as possible which lasted like 5 minutes.

my no-handed trackstands don't last very long because my front wheel always turns perpendicular.

Yeah, some joker did that to me in New York one time, just as the light was changing. Luckily, I didn't fall, I just came down on one foot. Also luckily, he didn't get too far away, so I was able to land a big, phlegmy spitball on the back of his head as I took off. Sweet sweet justice.
