Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

The dropouts are angled w.r.t. the brake bridge so that the rim and pads are reasonably well aligned at any wheel position. This is the idea behind the slightly upwards angle of the vast majority of "horizontal" dropouts (and one advantage they have over track ends for ssfg use)

Thanks! What in particular do you hate? Overall build? Or just the idea of mounting the shifter there?

I get lots of flack locally from the track drop stem / bars but the shifter system gets lots of comments...
the most common comment I have got was "looks cool!! ... But why?" I just laugh and smile =)

In the end, if you like it, then that's all you need. For me, the location of the shifter, the track drops, and the whole jury-rigged contraption just doesn't work for me. But power to ya if you like it.

I love the look of it, and love the idea of a three speed, but if you have a bike with an indexed 8 speed RD and rear wheel spacing fit for an 8 speed, why not just add the extra gears? You don't have to use them but if you over shift on that you lose the chain, at least in the 8 speed scenario you just hit the wrong gear and switch back.

Not so found of the brake levers, it seems really odd to have them on the top, but not have tape. I would just get standard road levers so at least you get the extra position with nothing lost.

Thanks for the input! ... But... just to add... using the stop screws in the derailleur I have limited the derailleur to the three gears... so the derailleur will not push the chain off of them...
