Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Tandem fixie?

I was chatting with my Dad on the weekend and he was telling me that he and his dad used to ride from Brighton to London (England) to watch a cycling race and then ride home again afterwards. They would ride on the fixed-gear tandem (with brakes). I had never heard of one of these before. This would have been done in the mid- to late-40s to 50s (my Dad married my Mum in '57 and travelled by boat to Montreal and settled in Canada).

This was mine and a buddies. I think we picked up the bike off craigslist for like $150 with some 26" wheels. A little bit of elbow grease and some weinmans and it was fixed. In this pic I was part way through sanding the frame (before I know how much easier jasco's made things). It was seriously a blast, and considering it weighed about 50lbs it was fast as **** having two people pedal. We left the frame outside under the staircase and somebody stole it unfortunately.

Maybe they're hooked up internally by the bottom brackets.

We've got one out at our track for para-athletes.

Helluva draft.
