For those of you who reside in college dorms...
I'm going to be going to college soon, and I was just wondering how do those of you who live in dorms store your bikes?
Is it possible to bring both of my rides with me, or will I have to choose one?
Pictures would be great if you have one.
Gracias

what kind of dorm will you be in? I had a road bike on campus last semester, but i lived in an apartment style dorm so it just leaned against one of the walls. I know a couple friends that have bikes hanging from their cielings above their beds haha. Plenty of space there for two bikes, if you can find a stud to mount hooks from

Painfully average.
There is usually a fenced in space where you can lock your bike (anyone can get in though) and a ton of bike racks outside. You can take your bike in but you'll have to ask your roomate if it's cool unless you can get it totally out of the way like a ninja (still, it's courtesy to tell your roomie).
May vary by college.

From what I remember, its about a 9'x11-12' room, with 2 people in it.
I'm definitely going to talk to the guy and make it clear that I'm going to have at least 1 bike in there.

Keep it in your common room with a ulock attached.
As a former college student long long ago, dorm rules are usually rarely followed and RA's are usually lax/ too busy to give a **** about such things as bikes. You might have to move it outside for an hour or two as the janitor does their weekly thing in your dorm.

If there are choices in terms of dorms, call around the university to find which dorms will accommodate bikes. If you get the chance, contact some RA's and see if there's a chance that you can lock-up in a common area. It might get ****ed with, but much less likely to get stolen, piecemeal or whole.
Freshman year is a great time to live in the dorms because it lets you meet people, but I'd eventually move out to a small apartment. Issue gone.
edit: well, Leuky pretty much said everything I did before I finished my post.

you are most likely only going to be able to fit one bike in your dorm. I never trusted leaving my bike out side and locked up with all the target and wal mart bikes. just make sure not to ride it around your floor naked while wearing a beer helmet

I only have one bike with me, and I wedge it between my wall and my bed (seems like the best place I could keep it out of the way in a similar sized room).
Also my whole university doesn't allow bikes inside, but be cool with your RA the first week and attend all the hall meetings and they should turn a blind eye to it, it worked for me.
and unless your second bike is going to be a brompton or something, one bike will most likely be the most you can fit.

I have no personal experience keeping a bike in the single room style dorms, but i know there where kids in my hall freshman year who were like triathaloners or some **** and had 2 or 3 bikes in the room. It just means giving up space for doing anything else at all haha
and FWIW, my university has never cared about bikes inside, as long as its not in the hallways or something

my dorm didn't allow us to bring bikes inside, but i lived on the first floor so i just slid my bike through the window. i had a lofted bed and put my bike under my bunk, on my side of the room, out of the way. most RA's won't care, they have more important things to worry about.
bring one of your nice bikes to keep in your room and have a beater that you don't mind locking outside for going to class and getting around campus.

If I am only able to bring one bike, which one should I bring? CAAD or Leader? I was planning on starting to race at Alpenrose, but it looks like I'm not going to be able to due to not having my bike.

I doubt you would have room for a bike inside unless you have a folder. Even that is pushing it.
Locking on a bike rack outside also sucks because college to bike thieves is like red meat to flies.
Buy a dirt cheap super crappy bike that rides okay.

My freshman year in college, I lived in the typical college dorm building and I had those riser things that lift your bed a couple of feet off the ground (not fully lofted to where you can have your desk under there and what-not). That gave me plenty of space to slide my bike under my bed.
My senior year, I shared a tiny apartment w/ my friend and I managed to find space for my bmx, mtb, touring bike, and fixed gear. Creative hanging of bikes in various places in my room.

you could always screw a couple hooks to the wall/ceiling to hang it. then just plaster over the holes at the end of the year, or pay a small fine for damage.
