Not today but a few days ago, the sun was out when I woke up and it was a lovely winters day. Decided to ride my bike to uni in nothing more than jeans and a t shirt (it was that good). Go to my first class which had no windows and when I exited the building it was pouring with rain. The weatherman said the rain would hold off till late afternoon and it was 11am. Riding home was not good times. On the plus side because I was so cold I pushed hard to get home quick/stay warm.

Yesterday finally convinced my friends to ride bikes out to.the river, one buddy is a pack a day smoker so the pace was real slow but its nice to not ride alone.

Today I fly to Hamilton for the second funeral in a week. Well, technically 8 days but whatever. I miss my bike. I miss being home. But goddamn, it is good to see family once in a while.

yep. roast your own (i do mine in a pan on low heat), and brew simple. people at work think i'm a snob, but heck i only have 1-2 cups / day, they better be good.

Today I noticed that my ride on Saturday looks like a drooling dog on the map, because of a randomly added out-and-back sprint on Great Highway to Sloat, before heading through the park back to the mission as planned.

Tonight I'm sitting in an ER awaiting a CT scan. My daughter picked up a baseball size chunk of concrete and tried to toss it as high as she could. Unfortunately, I'm about 2ft taller than her, so it only made it about 6' into the air, busting my temple.

Jesus H F*** I get on here to ***** about getting a flat, changing it in a fire ant anthill, then flatting again (tire carcass itself was fragged by 40 oz glass in the first hit and I didn't realize it), then losing my blinkie light and having my ATM card declined trying to buy some beer, all in 8 fun filled miles. Meanwhile people are getting concussed and CT'd, in psych wards and their dads are a mess. Thanks for the perspective, and I hope the rest of you are doing better, honestly. Good wishes to all. Also, though: F Thickslicks (heavy, and get holed worse than any tire I've ever used before).

Feel better Johnny!
Today, I learned my mom likes watching cycling on tv. She's visiting from Michigan for a couple of weeks (which is actually pretty nice as I've only seen her about 3 times in the last 2.5 years) and tonight while cooking dinner I threw on the US Pro Challenge...she was glued to the tv. She doesn't understand it at all, but she gets riding a bike and she's just blown away by how fast they go and how close they are. I was amused.

I actually think the script logos look kind of cool, until I changed gear from a 17 T cog to one that offers only a few skid patches and, in by accident in the process of "I hate and will kill this heavy tire, via whip-skidding", [logo just turned out to be in the path of the whips] turned the logo from "thickslick" to 'inickiick". problem is now, how do I teach myself not to skid ALL over the place to kill the tire (now, I will have a tire I want to keep. it was kind of fun to try to murder a tire on purpose, though)

To get started just ride around and try skidding with the other/ non-dominant foot in front; try the nuts to stem method to make things easier as opposed to seated. When skidding just remember to have front foot pull when in front and the back foot to push.

I do this [your tips] already. But 48x18 = 3 skid patches, ambidextrous or no. I need to grow up and stop skidding, but it is fun to do it. Thanks for the tips, though (seriously ... before I could get ambi skidding I had searched for, found and then tried to master all those things).
