I finally got my bike rolling. There was a long pause due to front brake compatibility but I resigned and dug up an older cantilever set to make the bike work. Now I got to see if the Brooks will work out with the frame geo because so far it feels a bit iffy :'(

Running some more electrical at the shop. Learning about three-phase for the air conditioning is a bit intimidating so far.

I must say, this is one of those times I highly recommend you hire an electrician. If this is a shop for a business, then your insurance will require the work to be done by a licensed and trained individual to pay out in the event of a fire or other loss caused by the electrical systems. I am a DIY guy all day, but when it comes to certified electrical and cabling, I put the cash down every time.

I wouldn't mess with 240 vac 3-phase even in my own home. That **** can kill you.

At the subway

T: Don't step on the third rail it has 625 volts

R: It's not the volts that kill you, it's the amps

R: How many amps do you think it has

T: Enough to move a f**king train!

The current in a circuit is limited only by the capacity of the conductor and the circuit breaker protection. The higher the voltage potential, the higher the current flow for a given circuit resistance. The conductors for the 240 volt circuits in my house that power the HVAC, clothes dryer and stove are designed to carry far greater current than the 120 volt circuits. The breakers allow far greater current to flow before tripping. Therefore, the 240 vac circuits are far more dangerous, and more likely to cause electrocution than the 120 vac circuits.

true, but the amps the breaker trips at is a moot point since a direct path through your heart only takes a few milliamps to cause the heart to stop. The breakers are for system protection, not life protection.

further note, the trains are D.C. which means once that electricity "grabs" you, you're not getting off until the source breaker trips.

I understand your point about the breakers, but my point was that a short circuit situation will cause the 120 Vac circuit breakers to trip much faster, minimizing the chance of electrocution if you are holding onto something when this occurs. Your point about DC vs AC is a good one, since your human reflex is to immediately let go when getting shocked by AC. It's not just a matter of how much current you received, but also how long.

All is well with the A/C now. We have a balanced 3-phase 240v system, and it was not so bad after watching a few videos. As long as incoming power is turned off I don't see why you guys are so reluctant...

Good luck with that. Hmm, I wonder where that 4th wire goes ?

For the record, I am not reluctant because of dangers during the work, I am reluctant because if anything should ever happen such as a fire and the fire marshall points to the AC or anything in line, your insurance provider is going to ask which bonded electrician did the work, and when you can't produce the paperwork they are going to deny your claim and you are going to be turbo farked.

3 phase 240 is both confusing and terrifying.

Go-karts were fun, even if I came in third. I kept getting yelled at to stop bumping and to slow down. Apparently, I should slam on my brakes when someone cuts me off instead of forcing them out of my way. I then proceeded to drink my weight in beer. Fell asleep on the way to the hotel and forgot most of what happened. Luckily, I'm a fun drunk and my coworkers said I was a blast.

I was hungover on Friday and ended up getting an early flight once I found out the one I was supposed to be on was delayed for 2 hours. That pretty much put a damper on all things related to bikes.

I'll be back eventually though, hopefully with better weather.

Today my chain started to sound like a chain saw so I figured it was a good time to oil it, luckily I was supervised.
