I accidentally got some gelato on my knuckles and licked it off. Tasted like a sweaty cycling glove.

Sorry for the headache TT. This sounds like a bunch of wasted time and energy. I would just nod your head and give a blank stare and hope that it goes away - what else can ya do, really.

just out of curiosity, do you do any actual race specific training outside of riding for work and your dope weekend rides i see on the stravamachine?

im kinda curious about road racing but i dont have nearly enough time to "train" like i see others doing. i think it would be fun until it became "work"

Your analogy is wrong, since I very much enjoyed racing, but don't enjoy fighting with people.

It's just frustrating for me, since I've always been a good neighbor to her and helped in the past when she needed it, and overlooked a lot of her bs which has been an inconvenience to me. For example, she feeds all these feral cats, which then proceed to crap in my yard and once even inside my garage that I had left open. Cat poop is the most awful stink imaginable, and I actually puked when I go a whif of of it in the garage. I've always been able to reason and defuse problems with my neighbors, by this one is absolutely nuts. I've never had anyone simply call me a liar w/o any iota of truth, I've never been sued in my life, nor have I sued anyone, and I don't want to start now.

I guarantee that he does race specific interval training, especially for crits. Basically, normal riding is for base conditioning and power, and interval training is for speed and recovery in repeated sprints. Base riding is aerobic and fun, interval traing is anearobic and painful. If you don't have a high pain threshold, don't try racing.

Fort Worth is doing okay. The US Army Corps of Engineers rechanneled the Trinity River through Fort Worth back in the 50s and 60s after severe flooding in the late 40s, so the worst effect in the city has been flooded low water crossings.

Try it! It shouldn’t be some big ordeal – although I would get some experience riding in a fast local group ride, mainly so you can handle yourself and your bike safely around others at speed.

Fork up the cash, pin a number on and ride around in circles. Cat 5 exists for people like yourself, who are curious and inexperienced. You may find that you enjoy it so much that you wish to increase your fitness and perform better (racing is funner when you’re fast) – which could be your motivation to train.

For many like myself, doing “work” has a lot to do with it – I enjoy setting goals, making training plans and working out nearly as much as actually racing.

You sure about that? Most 4/5's (and even many 3's) that I know don't do anything besides group rides (unstructured intervals) and JRA the rest of the time.

Well hey, I thought it was funny But then again, I’m not actually dealing with it. What spurred my thought process was the idea of counter suing – and how someone in your boat is totally viable to counter-sue due to the mental and financial strain that you could be put through.

I rode in an "Underground Crit" every week for about a year. It was just a group of about 50 or so guys cruising around a 2 mile loop at 25+ miles an hour. It definitely taught me how to handle my bike and corner better. I never got over the nervousness though and the other guys that raced Cat 5 would talk about all the crashes. I'm a wuss. I never took it farther than that and now I'm slow and fat.

Today I rode my bike through some pretty sketchy neighborhoods and couldn't get the route to upload to my garmin, so had to stop constantly and check my phone to see if I was on the right road. It's kind of scary when you stop and a whole family walks out the front door to look at you and see what you're doing. I'm guessing they hadn't seen a guy in spandex riding a bike before. Then about a two miles from home I got a flat tire and had a bum watch me change my tire...from start to finish, didn't stay a word, just stood about five feet from me with his mouth agape.

@SpeshulEd well good thing he wasnt on meth, he wouldve come over and insisted he help you change the flat by disassembling the entire bike down to the individual bearings

What Cat are you ? Either you are racing Cat 5 and not being challenged by that field, or you are an extraordinary talent that can get by without any speed and recovery interval training. I can tell you that when I raced Cat 2, I could not have succeeded w/o it. Also, are those Crits you race in all fast speedway types with no slow turns, because otherwise you would need to constantly accelerate hard out of turns and recover quicky before the next turn, or you would blow up in short order, get lapped and get pulled.

Do it! As previously mentioned, I know plenty of guys who race but don't train. You will need to "train" (execute specific workouts) to reach your full potential, but you don't need to reach P/1/2 to feel good about yourself and enjoy racing. Hell, I've been a cat 3 for like 5 years.

On that note, I'm heading to Fiesta Island to do a 20' FTP test. This is going to suck.

This will be my first test in nearly 2 months due to my time off the bike/injuries/accident. I'm shooting for 290w, let's see what happens...

I just got off the phone with my insurance agent, and she assured me that they would take care of any legal problems with my crazy neighbor under my homeowner's insurance policy. If I do in fact receive any legal papers, I should just FAX them to my agency and they will forward them to their Allstate lawyers who will promptly ream my neighbor a new butthole. Her only admonition was to cut off any further communication with my neighbor, which should be easy.

I spent a restless night worrying about this crap, and can now get in a decent bike ride before the next round of thunderstorms.
