Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

A quick review of my Windsor The Hour and BikesDirect

I ordered my bike off of Bikes Direct for $300 on a Sunday afternoon. I received it early Thursday morning via UPS ground. Very fast shipping from Texas to California! Also, I made an error in my shipping address (used my old address... paypal didn't even prompt me for an address) so I was very scared since I ordered the bike on a Sunday, and I couldn't call them to correct the order. At 6 PM PST I called BikesDirect and they told me to send them some information so they could correct the address. Within the hour after I called the bike shipped. Truly amazing customer service.

As for the Windsor The Hour, I made a short video review since I don't know much about bikes to type too much about them! Let me know if you have any questions though and I will try and answer them. If you want any close up pictures let me know as well! Video is posted below.

This is my first SS bike and I am in love with it. It's so fun riding it around. I ride it to the gym and back every day and it is truly a great ride. It also happens to be my first bike NOT from Wal-Mart. Going to be using it to commute to college every day when school starts. This forum converted another person to an SS rider! I won't be going back to multispeed as long as I live in a flat area! Also, will my legs get stronger? I hope they will since I start to get leg pain after I ride for 3-4 miles! I need to rest for a few minutes before I ride again.

Let me know if you guys have any questions!

Your legs will get stronger, just keep at it man.

There's this one overpass by my old work that used to KILL me on the 10mi loop I did often when I worked there. Now I sprint up it as revenge for all the times it destroyed me.

FWIW, I was once 235lbs, severely overweight for my height and had high blood pressure problems, and a 10 mile ried was a huge workout. I'm now 190ish, have my blood pressure better than it was when I was "fit" and am racing bikes. So... just keep at it.

I'm still on the fence about which bike I'm getting from bikesdirect, so I appreciate the review.

Do you happen to have a scale you could weight it on? Like, weight yourself then weight yourself holding the bike, then subtract. Just curious, thanks!

I would have to remove my fenders and everything then, sorry =/. Honestly though it is quite a light frame for a steel frame. It weighs just slightly more than my old aluminium Marin Larkspur.

Nice looking bike. I like the fenders on it. Going to do you a favor on saddle selection: Charge Spoon. Will look a lot better than that saddle, and will be more comfortable guaranteed. Others can probably vouch for me on that note.

My bad, I bought that Marin used on Craigslist. That makes this my second bike not from Wal-Mart
