Do you have any new builds still in the planning stages ? Is it somehow unique or different from what you now have or is it a modern interpretation of some classic theme ? What are the constraints on it such as budget, time frame for completion and minimum quality of the parts ? How will it be used and how practical must it be ?

Anyway, I'd like anyone interested to share your planned builds in this thread. I'll kick it off with mine:

Theme: Modern interpretation of my vintage Schwinn Paramount P14 track bike, but suitable for street use.

Constraints: Total cost under $2000 and completion by Christmas 2013.

Parts list: Soma Rush white frame with threaded chrome fork and Tange Levin chrome headset, Dura Ace 7600 fix/fix HF track hubs 32 hole with Mavic Open pro silver rims (Velomine), IRD Defiant cranks and QB55 BB, Whipperman Whitestar silver chain 1/8", EAI Deluxe track cog 1/8" x 17T, MKS Royal Nuevo pedals, MKS clips, Toshi Deluxe single straps, Nitto Classic Road handlebar with white bar tape, Nitto Pearl quill stem, Nitto Dynamic 626 seatpost, Selle Italia Flite 1990 saddle, Tektro R540 silver front brake caliper and Dia Compe Gran Compe Shot silver brake lever.

My titanium all road gravel grinder is still collecting parts. the chris king bits ship next week. then i need another rim, then i need spokes, then i need rotors, then i need a front derailleur, then i'll be good.

after that i'm not buying another bike till a year from now.

I was going to pick up a friend's late 80's c'dale criterium, but he backed out and wants to keep it. Would have been 100$ for everything but saddle/pedals. Lame.

The hunt continues. Ideally I would find something that had frame, fork and drivetrain/shiftybits only in size ~53/54.

I'm taking my single speed Trek and doing a complete tear down & re-build with different parts, and setting it up as a S24O touring machine for exploring Florida. It should be done by mid-summer.

I'm parting out three bikes to fund my next and probably last build for a long, long time. Semi-custom fillet brazed Pedimoto low-trail 650b bike with a lot of cool features like internal dynamo wiring, internal cables, Routens-style seat stays, seat tube mounted taillight, NOS Reynolds 531 and Columbus SL tubing, custom chromed front rack and fillet brazed stem. I've managed to dump a lot of money into previous builds, but this will definitely be the most expensive. Counting parts I'll use that I already have I'll have close to $3k in it. Do NOT tell my wife that.

It's currently being painted a high gloss British Racing Green with gold pin-striping.

Have been doing some tweaking... a new rear wheel is in the works so I have the option of running a full gear range instead of the three speed and the drop bars solve a lot of issues i have been having with my back and the more upright position.

over here i want 2 bieks:

1) This one is easy:

To build up my '03 KHS flite 100 (currently siting as frame/fork/headset/crank/BB in my parents garage) with risers, double straps and a low gear for short cruises and errands around my apt


2) This one is a tough call:

A) 1x9 29" xc style MTB with a steel or Ti frame, disk brakes and XT/XTR bits on it , or

B) 10sp steel or Ti road bike with shimano ultegra 6600, an easton carbon fork, new wheels (kinlin xr-300 custom build) and whatever I have lying around to finish up the build

I can't justify buuilding both right now. I really want a nicer training bike. The one I have now is great, but i's just so heavy, slow and unresponsive. I know speed doesn't really matter in my daily training, but I ride enough and hard enough to deserve something thats a little snappier then this beast:



... which is a great bike, it's just a little too sluggish for me. I want something that is just as durable and reliable, but sharper handling and lighter to train on. I'll likely leave it permanently at my parents house so I always have a bike there when I visit.

On the flip side, the MTB would clearly be a lot more fun (so I didn't have to borrow one everytime I ride MTB). Option A would probably increase the overall quality of my life as a cyclist a little more (given how much more it would get ridden), but option B would present me with more opportunity to have fun, try new things and be social with people I don't ride with a lot. Hmmmmm.

I'm building up a salsa casseroll frameset I have had lying around now for a few years. I bought it because I wanted a long distance endurance bike. I've been moving around a lot the last few years so I haven't had time to build it up. I pretty much have the parts groups now and I'll build it up over the next week. Nothing crazy in terms of parts but it will be a nice bike.
