An apology, my Philly peeps: I'm a wuss when the snow falls. The dirty, salty mess that has sprung anew on our fair city's streets drives me to drinking and napping. Let's all take a moment, close our eyes, and picture in our minds the glory that is Philadelphia in early spring. OK, back to the sh*thole. Sorry

Very nice. As I suggested, after work there was burger and beer, then home and a massive nap attack. I think the winter blahs have a firm grip on my grill. It may take breaking down and, GASP, riding my GEARED mtb so as to ward off my ******itude. If I must...

How much did you get? That doesn't look like much but maybe it had been plowed a few times. We got like 10" up here. Very different snow for us, very dry and light but large flakes. It makes a VERY slippery surface.

About a week ago was my first ride in snow. I really can't imagine freewheeling in the snow. My front brake clogged up and became useless within just a few minutes.

But snow is fun as hell. You can do seated skids, but hills are pretty rough sometimes.

For sure. I went out for a few hours last night and I think I touched the brake once at the start of the ride and didn't use it after that. The picture is kind of trashy, but if you look closely you'll see the brake has turned into sort of a big snow hug on tire. I have the original style canti cable hanger and it was so iced over that the ice was dragging on the tire tread. I was afraid it was going to get caught, snap the hanger cable, and get caught on the wheel.

But it didn't.

It was a pretty much totally excellent ride.

Actually, after five years in boston, i've come to look forward to riding around in the snow.

Today i was found myself dissapointed when the roads were basically clear for my commute.

It really helps to have the right gear:
Warm tights and lobster mits make the winter much, much bearable.
Also- disc brakes (no clogging) and studded tires (suprising traction, even on ice).

It's 3:20, I'm about to go out on my, ahem, geared mtb. Sorry all, but the heat is off in the building and I'm going freakin' batsh*t over hear. Slush and mush, salt and switching gears, who gives?

ramble ramble ramble. jeez, I'm losing my marbles here. Spring, anyone?
