Gt Timberline to SS Cross conversion questions
 

I have decided to convert my beloved 93 GT Timberline into a single speed cross bike.

The fork, cranks, and front wheel were destroyed in an accident but the frame and rear wheel is still straight and solid.

I would like to do this right and make a super strong and simple SS cyclocross racer.

Can you suggest a good but budget minded set of square taper cranks and either a spacer kit (not against making my own), or preferably a set of SS cyclocross wheels?

Any tips or tricks for a solid build? Any tried and true parts to look for?

Just get some Sun Rims CR18 rims and some formula hubs.

CX racer? So you want 700c wheels? That can be done, but not well if you want to ride the muddy races.

If dry races only, then no problemo.

700c wheelset with 135mm rear spacing.
Long reach dual pivot front brake, you'll need to drill out hole on back of fork to fit recessed nut.
Long reach nutted rear brake (or recessed if you want to drill out the front of the brake bridge).

Then you'll have to get a tensioner or try to hit a magic ratio cuz I bet you have vertical dropouts.

This is my CX'd olde MTB, before I sourced the dual pivot front. Brake performance was kinda weak with the single pivot shown here.
