Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

So other than tires and tubes, I wouldn't have to do anything to those Weinmanns and could just slap em on and be good?

There's no way we can tell from just pictures.

Sorry for asking a million times about wheels haha I just want to make sure I don't screw up. I found these and I'm pretty sure they'd fit and be okay but please tell me if I'm wrong

Yes, these will work as well. They're actually nicer looking than the previous pair you found.

Update; bought those wheels today, they totally kick ass haha. Finished putting the whole bike back together but still have problems; 1 - the brake doesn't grip very tightly so it's not really safe. I tried to pull on the cable but can't get it tight enough because the new wheels are way skinnier than the ones the brakes were designed for. 2 - The left crank arm comes loose and allows the pedal to wiggle about an inch so I can't get a good cadence. Its a super old crank though, it has pins that go through the crank arm and then you have to hammer them in and bolt them on, so I am gonna go to a bike shop tomorrow and see if they can fix it or if I need a new crank set. ugh. But, it was a great first ride, even with these problems

thats what i meant about the cottered cranks, not the most reliable in the long run

fwiw i have a set of $70 origin8 cranks with almost 2000 miles on them and really my only complaint is the less than round chainring

It's finally rideable haha. I do have to get a new brake, because the brakes on it were centre-pull caliper brakes, and to tighten them to the proper distance was no problem, but as soon as you'd pull the brake, the yoke wouldn't be able to take the pressure and it would just let go of the cable. So I'm looking around in my lbs's for brakes that will work. But that's also annoying because I cant tape the handlebars until I have a brake *facepalm* In the meantime, I'm riding brakeless, but nowhere very busy because I can't stop myself very quickly yet. Oh and also I'll eventually switch out the cranks because they squeak and groan when I slow down haha. But here are some pics of it and thanks again to everyone who helped me!

(also any suggestions on its future paint color?)

I like that blue, brings back fond memories of my Jamis, a brilliant bike ... except the frame was too big (didn't stop us doing over 10,000 kms together though). The paint'd have to be pretty horrible to justify repainting it, I'd concentrate on other things such as seat angle, handlebar angle, decent cranks, brakes, boring stuff like that before getting into paint jobs ... unless you really want to of course.

The trick is to make sure you've got a rideable bike, that way, you're never off the road. The other bike(s) can be the ones getting new paint and fancy bits and stuff like that. There isn't much more frustrating than being without wheels because a job is taking longer than expected.

Thanks for your help everyone! I finally finished and everything finally works as it should. I'm gonna have to get new cranks soon just because mine squeak a little haha but I'm very pleased with the end result
