But if they're trashed, I never buy rubberbands again by cutting them up width wise. The part I can't cut up into rubberbands per say a blow out, I use as patching material for the above.
I also buy the type with a replaceable valve core so I can salvage that as well.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Patch them and re-use them... I do a lot of charity work and for some the price of a new tube is often too much so many of these end up being given away.
Harder to get / expensive tubes get patched and re-used... Schwalbe tubes with their fully threaded Shrader valves aren't cheap.

i will always patch and reuse what i can, but im not gonna bother patching a 1 inch gash with 16 patches, and i just dont trust a tube with 5 or more patches on it so im strictly talking ones beyond the state of reuse
i have been using bmx tubes for years in my camping/survival gear for ranger bands. theyre great for firestarting and are great for keeping lashings and containers secure
i feel a little bad throwing so many tubes away though, im never gonna need this many rubber bands lol

Use them for gripping stuck lids, fishing rod sections, etc. Cut lengths as needed. Then slit lengthwise.

I'm pretty bad at re-using old tubes. I don't patch, but I do keep a few on hand for odd jobs, most recently to help secure a camera mount to my bike with the tube as the frame protector. I have also used short sections to cover those little LED lights (guys like this ) for added water resistance during winter months. I never thought of the rubber band idea, but that's a great one, I'll start using that too. But as I said, I generally only have a couple blown ones laying around. I recycle the rest.
