I'm stuck between buying one of these bikes. I'm new to bikes and I'm not looking for any expensive high-end bike, just an inexpensive commuting bike for college. I'm just wondering if the quality of the 2 bikes is so different that I should buy a certain one. Should I get the MTA or Streetfighter, assuming I don't upgrade my bike?

The Streetfighter has higher quality cranks and brakes, which definitely make it worth the extra few bucks IMO.

My entry into the SSFG world was one of the earlier Dawes MTAs. It's cool if it's your first bike ever, but Seau's right- pay a little extra for decent components because the MTA components left a lot to be desired. Unless you desire parts made from a mix of steel and dog turds.
