So I found this frame in the garbage by my house and it seems like its in good shape.



I was told that it has a carbon fork or something like that. I honestly don't know, lol.

ANYWAY, I have no idea what to do or where to start with building this bike and I want to at least try and build it up by myself. If you guys have any suggestions or tips, I'd really appreciate it.

You haven't really asked a question, so no one can give you an answer. Read the sticky threads and do some research.

First take it to a shop to see what's wrong with it. It was probably in the garbage for a reason.

It would be a shame for you to waste time and money building a bike on a broken frame.

If you don't know what you are doing, it will take much longer and you will spend more money than if you did know what you were doing or you simply bought a complete bike (new or used).

Do you even know if it is your size? Bikes come in 2cm increments for a reason. Also, it's nothing special. It's just an old style frame. Carbon forks are a dime a dozen.

I had a friend who rides check it out and he said that it's in really good shape and that whoever threw it out was an idiot. It's my size, 50cm, there's no problem there. He did say that I may be spending a lot of money to get it fixed up, but I guess that's the point. I want to be able to look at this bike and be proud not only because it's my first bike but because I put it together myself.

There's so much great info on the internet. A few specialized tools are needed. If I were building something like this & didn't have the tools, I'd do everything I could with my tools then take it to a bike shop to tighten those parts that need bike tools.
I don't know how you all get so lucky in finding these free bikes. I'm just lucky if I find a price that's in my range.

then start a google search on installing bottom brackets, headsets.
and read the stickies.

i still find it hard to believe that was a trash bin find...
just from the looks of it...

Read, read, read again, read till your eyes bleed. While building a bike isn't rocket science it does take the know how to know exactly what parts to use and how to apply the parts correctly.

Here, Sheldon Brown's website, and YouTube are some good places to do research on. Don't expect anyone to hold your hand along the way and make a shopping list for you.

atleast give us a drive side picture of the crankset.

for me, finding the correct spindle length for the bottom bracket on my shimano 600ex crankset took searching, googling and searching these forums. then taking a leap of faith because there wasnt a 100% answer. But through that bull**** i found my answer.

like thimble said noones going to hold your hand. No one held mine, and i was joked with for asking stupid questions and still am i am the local drunk and all lol.

but most everyone will help you if you put forth some effort into learning. plus with time you can find better deals on parts!

That is most certainly not a 50cm frame. Looks more like a 56 or 58cm frame. It also appears that someone else had it built up as SS/FG considering it only has a single chainring on the crankset. That large frame probably didn't fit the previous rider, seeing how slammed the seatpost is in the frame, and they just threw it away.

If it in fact fits you just get a SS/FG wheelset, handlebars, brakeset/levers, and you're almost good to go. Maybe $300-$350 in parts?
