Yes, early morning; the sun was just coming up. But not, actually, such a lovely spot. Right next to a busy road; a mucky dirty artificial pond, the heron in the foreground is standing on some kind of a water intake... note the pipes in the foreground.

I always lie to myself and say I am going to leave early and take a photo like this, never happens. I've also been to lazy to take LFT and have been going through the city to save all of 5 minutes. That is also not helping. Great photo.

Has to be a trick of the light. The crank arm has to rotate freely against the spindle so the flat spot on the cotter can properly engage the flat spot on the spindle. Putting a woodruff key on the spindle would totally defeat that. And it's not symmetrically placed.

And are you sure going on the streets saves time? LFT vs streets for me adds 1.5 miles but because there are no stop lights it takes about the same amount of time. Today I took streets because of the wind and ugh I hate cars and everyone else so much. Back to LFT, wind or no, for me.

I live in Albany Park, 8.8miles to the Loop through the city, 11.2miles by LFT. That 2.4 miles usually only costs me an extra 5 to 10 minutes if no wind. The wind is that extra variable that I can't deal with when I am already running late - which is always.
