63 Murray Liteweight Build

Found a cool pic of a kid back in what looked like the teens with a really cool looking sort of street racer of the time. Well, I decided to build something very much like that bike, I even ponied up and bought my first Brooks B17 for the build, it started out as a early sixties Murray built Sears bike. I've always liked the old liteweight frames but I actually welded the rear drops as I don't particularly trust the old pinch welds on these bikes. I couldn't go back with those janky old block style pedals, those things don't last. I bought a new set of really nice rootbeer painted double wall wheels with nice Shimano EB-110 coaster brake with a set of 26 x 1.5 tires, running 46/18 gearing, set of peaked cranks off an early 70's Schwinn, same with the stem, finished it off with the sweetheart sprocket and Redline platforms. 22" frame, bike was in great condition, rides superb and I really like how it turned out.

Here is the bike that inspired the build,...

That is awesome.

Was going to recommend getting the adapters to make the american bb into a euro bottom bracket.

Thanks, I had actually looked at doing just that but wasn't sure if I'd be able to run the one piece chainwheel, decided to keep the somewhat antique look about it.

Euro BB mated to a bmx crankset with chainwheel.

Ahh, ok, yea, I have got a coupe sets of Eastern 170mm sealed 3-piece cranksets and a few sets of Redline Monster cranks. Would be a lot stronger to.

Nice bike. Stick with the one-piece crank. There is nothing wrong with them. A modern 3-piece will ruin the look of the bike. What's with your saddle hanging way out over the wheel like that? If you clamped the very front of the rails you will bend them.

Thanks, I do like the old style look of the build with the one piece cranks, as for the seat, It's actually a layed back seatpost I fabricated, rides so much nicer then a straight post, takes all the pressure off the knees and back and lets you ride much longer more comfortably. The seat clamp is actually mounted right in the center of the seat where it should be.
