Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Cable grooves on fixie/SS. Just deal with it?

I have a pair of bars with cable grooves on them (switching to cross levers instead of hoods) and I get the feeling that the particular area will feel too narrow. I could purchase a new bar, but prefer not to do so at the moment unless I can find a cheap pair (around $25 and in black) and after much searching found that it may be unrealistic at the moment. Has anyone run cross levers on the grooved bars and filling in the groove with something when wrapping your bars? If not, was it too narrow after wrapping?

Just wrap them and forget it... the cable groove will disappear under bar tape and if it really bugs you, put some housing in the groove before you wrap the bars.

If your bars feel too thin, double wrap them. I use the old tape to do the first wrapping, and wrap it in the opposite direction to the top layer. New tape on top. Makes normal bars feel like nice, oversized bars.
