Big Jakarta points. NJS bikes are required by keirin rules to be heavy so as far as actually riding your bike they are not practical and they cost a lot. If the goal is conspicuous consumption and a demonstration of fashionableness then a NJS bike is a good way to go. Otherwise I'd stick with the BK.

I wouldn't want a frameset that's been ridden into the ground nearly on the daily by a pro-keirin rider....

Well I am only worried about getting a lighter/stiffer/better constructed frame, so if it is a wank to get a used Kierin I'll give it a miss.

You guys haven't completely convinced me it's a bad call though.. I can get a Bridgestone frame in my size (looks better constructed than a BareKnuckles) which includes a Sugino 75 BB and a pro headset for $50 more than a BareKnuckles frameset - that is tempting! Surely the re-sale value is better w/ that as well.

    I REALLY wouldn't want a BB/headset that's been ridden into the ground by a pro-keirin rider. Also, I personally wouldn't want a Sugino 75 BB at all.

Have you seen both frames in real life or just on the internet?

Keirin bikes are made to be raced in a controlled environment. The BK was specifically designed to take a beating on the street.

I saw a candy shop bike parts list..

The only things on that whole list I would have gotten are the hubs and rims. I'd also give some thought to moving up in frame sizes I don't have a 32" inseam and I ride a 55, with a 32.5 I'd be way more inclined to go 57. My only advice to you OP is do thins project next year you don't know what you want other than a nice bike ride more, wear some stuff out then come back to the project. The best bike a built over time not the bikes built with the biggest check book
