Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

What's a good "out of the box" wheel set?

Good tradeoff between lightness and strength. I mostly commute and I don't really have to worry about people stealing my bike. Money is not really a problem, but I'd prefer good "bang for the buck" if possible.

I was gonna build my own but have no time right now.

Thanks!

Velomine has a good chunk of wheelsets to choose from all sorts of hubs laced to all sorts of rims, in all sorts of price ranges and of course, pre-built.

Try and find the time. You can complete a set in about two hours.

If you shop carefully, you can build an incredibly light and stiff set of top notch wheels for < $300. I just got a slammin deal on a set of new Paul Components track hubs, high end Velocity rims, and Sapim bladed spokes for around that price. The wheels will be feather light and incredibly strong, and will be in the category of sets that retail for around the $1000 mark…….only better of course because I built them! ; - )

Band for your buck leads me to formula hubs. Commuting leads me to a23s.
