Did Specialized ever rebrand sugino RD2s? Pull off from 2005 langster

I bought a 2005 specialized langster off CL a few months ago, and had pulled off the stock cranks to swap for new. I just threw the in a box, figuring they were crap stock parts. Just by chance, I was going through that box today and took a closer look at the cranks. Lo and behold, they have identical markings to a Sugino RD2 crankset, albeit some different model markings. The fit and finish is not up to par with a new sugino-branded set, but the forging looks the same. Does anyone know if Specialized definitely did rebranded sugino cranks? I say rebranded because on the Specialized specs page, they're listed as "Specialized Comp". Some pics:

I'm a bit confused here, and google searches didn't bring up a single case of sugino selling their cranks OEM.
Any thoughts?

Well gosh, with the Sugino "crown" logo near the pedal eyes...

Doesn't surprise me at all. So many companies these days produce parts for other companies. It allows companies to make more money then if they were just producing their own stuff.

It's a long time common practice. I have this old Specialized Nitto Stem.

The new RD2 cranks are no better quality than those old ones.

Crank, singular. R for right and L for left.

Not sure what you are trying to say, but it says RD2 on both the left and right.
Unless you are trying to say that a crankset should be called a crank instead of the plural cranks. I have always seen them referred to as plural cranks including on the Sheldon Brown website.

No, I'm saying that my RD2 cranks are stamped RD2R on the right crank arm and RD2L on the left crank arm. A crankset consists of a right crank arm plus a left crank arm. The crankset, itself, is a model RD2. Also, if you look really closely, the pictured cranks are also marked RD2R and RD2L.
