Ebay offers a similar "set it and forget it" thing right? So what is the advantage of an external sniper application?

I hate that about ebay, however, this helps with that sometimes.

Probably nothing, I didn't realize ebay had a sniper setting. I don't buy much from ebay and when I do, its usually buy it now.

Gixen has a batch feature where if there's multiple items you're interested in but only need one, you can set it up to try to snipe all of them but have it automatically stop the others after you win one auction.

I think it's hard to call it a sniper, I think it's just an autobid. I think the benefit of Gixen is that it's a timed snipe rather than an autosnipe.

I didn't know about the multiple item thing though, I'll check that out.

No.

And don't believe that Competitive Cycling-esq bull**** in the ad. It's a bad beater bike made from crap that people would normally throw away.

Kickass single speed, built in the Mission in S.F. (where bikes are built to ride strong but look like **** so they don't get stolen) by a mechanic who went on to wrench for the Olympic Cycling Team in Colorado Springs.

Vintage Raleigh lugged frame set (likely Technium), I would say it's a 58cm (I'm just 6' and fits me great). Bike has lots of tasty bits throughout:

Cinelli bars, Specialized S-Works crankset, DKG Strongarm Brake Bridge (by the guy who invented the brake booster - DKG CNC Machine Shop Home Page), powerful cantilever brakes (not sure brand), chain in good shape, front rim is SunRingle ME14A (worth $50 on its own), Shimano Deore XT Parallax 110 fron hub with Shimano XT quick-release skewer, good condition Vittoria Randonneur Pro high-performance city trekking tires, cool comfy and light Schwinn seat. !!!

This bike looks rough on purpose, but is fine underneath. Hell, take it to Groody Bros, have it blasted and painted, and it's a gold mine. The components that went into this bike more than justify the price - first $300 takes it.
You couldn't pay me to own that bike.

Big Lebowski 03-16-14 08:57 PM

No, not that one.

However, keep checking CL here in KC. People look to get rid of their Pure Fix or Big Shot bikes, once they realize that there are more hills here than they realized. They will want way too much, but will take less.

FWIW, here's an example: This bike has been listed for weeks: Trek Soho Bicycle if you are close to 6', I'd offer a $100.

I also love when frame sales include a random bottom bracket. Um thanks? I guess I'll throw that away for you.

Overall reasonable price for that vintage P14, made in USA. Lugs were painted over, pedals are not Campy, bar/stem not original, dent in TT not serious.

how about this Dawes? 60cm Aluminum Frame Fixed Gear"Fixie" Bicycle with SPD Pedals

This isn't a bad deal at all, I think that bike goes for like $430 on BikesDirect. Looks like it comes with clipless pedals too which is kinda sweet. If it fits you it's definitely an option.

GuitarBob 03-17-14 08:00 PM

I own one of those, and I like it. Cost me $425 (perhaps he is including pedals in his $500).

Looks like he changed the seat (the stock seat is sh1t as were the stock pedals) and took off the freewheel, so he might have that lying around. A Philasteve said, seems like an okay option if it fits you.

Found this:

Cinelli Fixie Track / Messenger Bike

Looks like a beater someone stripped down, repainted and put some "Cinelli" decals on. I'm no authority on Cinelli, but those welds look way too boogered up to be quality. Thoughts?

Interesting... I inquired about it and he said he received it from a dentist friend who received it in a trade. Strange way to pay for dental work.

I've actually owned a Soho-S since 2011 and I commute on it frequently. I'm not certain, but I think the "S" was for "Single", since Trek made a version that was not a single-speed. It's an aluminum bike that came with a Shimano freewheel (I replaced mine after 3 years with a White Industries freewheel), decent 700x28 tires, matte black paint, braze-ons for fenders/racks and an internal rear brake cable. Nothing flashy. One wouldn't know the brand unless they looked carefully for the Trek logo. It isn't obvious.

It's just me being sentimental, but of all of my bikes, this one would be the last to go. It doesn't have the pizzaz of a Bianchi or a Big Block, but it's a good bicycle. As I mentioned, the one on CL here in KC has been there for some time, but the owner keeps bumping it. I think that one could get it for $200 or less.

The 2014 version is called a "District S", but I think that it is essentially the same bike. District S - Trek Bicycle

Does this seem like a fairly priced frame? I was unfamiliar with the tubing so I googled it. Seems it at least could be 4130.
