Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

New to SS/Fixed

I have a Centurion frame with seat and handlebars but that's about it. I have always wanted a fixed gear and I am looking at the option of a flip flop hub. Can anyone recommend a wheel that is flip flop that is quite cheap, I will not be jumping with it etc. Just something cheap. This would be a 27 or 700 size, Thank you.

Retrospec or Purefix wheels are cheap 700cc deep sections with flip flop hubs. I use Retrospecs with sealed cartridge bearings on my commuter, they're quite tough actually. They've survived Oahu's awful roads, pot holes, curb checks, and bunny hops daily and have had no complaints. I re-tensioned some of the spokes after 6 months because I like twerking around with my bike, but wasn't necessary.
