    Where the hell did you find a girlfriend who suggests converting to a front disk brake to mitigate the brake problem. That's totally what I would do if you need a new wheel.

    That's actually fairly poor thinking. The modern dual pivot brakes are much, much better than any previous offering and Tektro make very good brakes at very good prices that are readily available. Even without the change in wheel size, you are better off changing to dual pivot brakes. That's not saying the rest of your thinking is wrong, I'm just commenting on the brake issue.

    I have to wonder how much of that improvement is just feel. Modern brake setups feel firm but I honestly can't say I've ever had trouble with a single pivot weinmann 500.

    I was going to keep the single pivot brakes I have for now. With a newer (smoother) brake lever and a nice fat wedge brake pad, the front should be responsive enough. I just can't convert to a 700c on the ones I have, but I got a new 27" wheel, so I'm not worrying about wheel conversions for the time being, but thanks Europa.

    She suggested it to make a really unique and interesting fixed gear, I just didn't want to deal with it now. Maybe in the future when my funds increase, Ill slip a disc brake on the front and do the 700c switch over.

    I like the crankset.

    Glad you didn't repaint the frame.

    Why not both brake levers? At a minimum, the available hand positions and grip would be symmetric.

    The disc brake is not a good idea. You'll need to replace/buy the front wheel (hub and rotor), the fork (meant for disc loading and mounting), the brake caliper (let's say mechanical caliper), and the brake lever (in all likelihood, but I can't confirm from experience between road levers and mechanical disc levers). For what, exactly?
