Cinelli Mash Bullhorns - yea or nay?
 

Not only am I slightly aroused by the look, but I'm pretty sure the wide flats would be comfortable to ride on. I haven't found any real reviews by consumers online, but a couple of sites mention they are comfortable and provide several riding positions. Does anyone here have experience using these bars? I like them but don't want to flush $130ish....

I have some. I liked them, but made the switch to drops.

just got a pair couple weeks ago for the ftp. really comfy. you can tell they hired a nice product designer to make em. nice wing/fuselage surface taste. i figure the hipster trend has faded on them so pick up a pair

Cinelli - MASH

These are similar and much cheaper. The graphics are super ugly though.

I bought some knockoffs before. Never looked right. Get the real deals

A handlebar that existed long before the Mash bullhorns can't really be considered a "knockoff".

no sorry i didnt get the fsa's i bought something else no name brand that looked similar. either way the mash's look great and feel great

The tops & corners are way too flattened to be of any real use so you're stuck with only one hand position. While not outright uncomfortable for just resting your hands, it's hard to get any meaningful grip. They only come in one width (42cm c-c) and weigh as much as a pair of drops (280g).

If you're really in love with the shape, check out Profile's Cobra Wing carbon bars. You can find unbranded ones on Aliexpress for $60. Marginally more compliant and 215g. I would recommend something like Deda's Crononero base bars.

The Cinellis are the knockoff. The Profile T2 Wing came out in 2005 or so:

again sorry knockoff was the wrong term. i like the cinelli's because they went to the trouble to spend some dough on r&d and not just engineering and fabrication. that goes a long way to me

Or you could just buy a generic set of alloy bullhorns off ebay for like £12, and save the rest for replacing skidded out rear tyres.

I confess that I've yet to see the point of flat spots on bars. Oversize bars yes, in fact, I love oversize bars (I got big paws) but just as that flat bit in 'ergo' drop bars was never in the right place for me, I can't really see that flat bit on the tops being in just the right spot to be comfortable, something not helped by always moving my hands around. And surely, as soon as you adjust the tilt of the bars to get the bullhorns just right, the flats will now be different.

Won't stop me trying them though, if I can find a way of doing it for free - I've got too many bike bits I've bought only to find they didn't suit me, maybe this is the start of me finally learning better (pause for hysterical laughter).

I'm not sure what you mean by "flat spot". Do you mean the the "aero" section to the sides of the center of the bar? That isn't there for comfort but for an extremely marginal aerodynamic benefit. Most of these bars were designed to be the base of an aerobar so that flat part wouldn't be a place where you would grip the bars regardless. I suspect that the comfort one has while resting your hands on them depends upon your hand dimensions but I've always found mine comfortable if the aero section points completely horizontally.

Yeah, it's there for aero benefits, but it's actually comfortable, especially if you have larger hands.

That flat area was the first thing I noticed and liked about the T2 Wing.

i think they're on the narrow side, that being said, my mash is my commuter so i prefer to have flat bars. if i were riding clipless i would definitely put them back on. you could definitely find some carbon bars for cheaper i suspect.

^This. Also, what carleton said about the flat tops making them the most comfortable bullhorns I've ever used.

I've had my pair in the closet for the last year because compact flat top drops & hoods > these any day.

I have the Vuka Alumina bars from ZIPP and rather like them. Comfortable and bit cheaper compared with the MASH bars (which are quite nice). Plus they make you faster (just kidding)

Those FSA Vision bars seem nice as well if you want a little upswing at the ends. Plus they weigh nothing according to BikeWagon.

Basically if you have the cash monies dolla dolla bill ya'll go with the MASH bars if you want something similar but better priced the Visions are just dandy and if you want something more flat at the ends and a nice place to rest your hands go with the ZIPPs.
